We are committed to helping you overcome the barriers that have prevented you from finding work or getting training before. Through one-to-one support our Navigators will help you to build on your strengths and aspirations and support you as you take realistic, manageable steps towards stable employment.
Our Navigators work in one of 5 local teams; Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North Tyneside or South Tyneside. Your Navigator will be local to you, and you can be confident in their extensive knowledge of your community. They’ll provide one-to-one support tailored to your needs and be with you every step of the way, reviewing what help you need and ensuring you get the right support from a range of specialist services, helping you build on your strengths and achieve your goals.
The support we offer:
Personal support and advice on a one-to-one basis. Friendly conversations, regular meetings, goal setting and advice tailored to each person’s needs are part of a Navigators day-to-day and the level of support you can expect when you join our programme.
Vast local knowledge. Our Navigators specialise in knowing what’s out there where you live. If there is a training course, job opening, volunteering opportunity or a support group near you that you could benefit from, they’ll know about it!
Health and wellbeing. Although Moving On Tyne & Wear is here to help people get closer to work, we start by helping you address your personal circumstances, health barriers and any other health related concerns.
Disability support. If you have a disability, we will support you to improve your employability and work-based skills, and we will give you access to work experience, volunteering, and internship opportunities that help you reach your goals. We’ll also act as a conduit between you and any potential employer to make sure reasonable adjustments are considered
Access to education and training. If you need further skills or qualifications to get to where you want to be, we can help you not only find but fund any required training.
Employment skills. Our Navigators are employability experts who can help you find the right job openings, build on your CV, provide application form advice and help you develop your interview skills.
Specialist employment skills, enterprise, and work experience. Once you are ready to make a move towards the labour market, we will help you to choose appropriate support from a range of employability activities.
Self-employment advice. If your aspiration is to be your own boss, our Navigators can help you gather all the knowledge and skills to be able to take your idea forward and build your own business.
Volunteering. Our Navigators work closely with our established partners to help participants find suitable volunteering placements with local employers.
Financial Capability Support. If you’re struggling with your finances, or would like help to build a stable financial future then we can offer you one-to-one, private and confidential financial support from an independent financial advisor.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Support. All our participants have the opportunity to attend a Mental Health and Wellbeing workshop where you can understand wellbeing, learn how to build resilience skills and learn about locally available resources and support
IT equipment. If you’re unable to progress on your employment journey without IT training or equipment, please speak to your Navigator who will be able to help you. We know lots of services who can support you with learning how to use different platforms and devices, and we can even fund the purchase of equipment if you can’t move forward without it.
Child care. In order to allow you the opportunity to focus on your employment journey and attend courses, appointments or interviews we can help you with the cost of childcare – please speak to your Navigator about this and they can talk you through the process, how it works and what you’re entitled too.
