I’m Lara, a Navigator in the Sunderland team!
As a Navigator, no two days are the same! The support we provide completely differs for each participant, as it is tailored to suit their individual needs.
Because of this, the support I offer on any given day can range from attending meetings alongside participants (sometimes with Citizens Advice, social workers, or welfare rights services), to investigating suitable training opportunities and job vacancies, helping write applications and CVs, or supporting participants to improve their financial stability.
When a participant first joins Moving On Tyne & Wear, I take the time to listen and understand their health barrier and the effect it has on their life. I’ll also hear about their motivations and interests, and discuss any steps that we could take that could help them address their health issue.
I provide that person with one-to-one support throughout their journey with the programme, helping them to build on their strengths and experiences, and making sure they get the right support to help them move forward.
For a lot of people, having somebody listen rather than tell them what to do makes such a difference. Taking the time to understand and build trust between us means we can better help the person move closer to employment!
