Everyone has a story of their time before Moving On Tyne & Wear, and often these stories are what have led people to us.
Suzanne is no exception. She’d previously worked within the Care sector but following a difficult period at work she suffered extreme anxiety and depression resulting in her leaving her job. During her first meeting with her Navigator Amy, Suzanne was extremely nervous. She’d lost all confidence in her ability, and although she was unsure about what her end goal looked like, she knew she didn’t want to work within the Care sector again.
Suzanne recognised that to find a new career she needed to improve her mental health, so Amy referred her to the Mental Health & Wellbeing Course ran by The Wellbeing Challenge. All Moving On Tyne & Wear participants have the option to attend these courses, run specifically for our participants throughout the course of the year. Suzanne began to attend the weekly group sessions (held via Zoom due to the COVID guidelines at the time) and worked on her health, wellbeing, and resilience.
It wasn’t long before her new sense of motivation started her thinking about what else she could do to improve her confidence.
Amy suggested that Suzanne try volunteering and, working closely with one of Moving On Tyne & Wear’s charity partners VODA, a suitable position was found. Suzanne progressed massively since she secured this position, she’d go in once a week and has really impressed everyone at the supportive service she volunteered for.
It was just the confidence boost Suzanne needed, and it meant she felt ready to start and actively look for a job. Thanks to Amy she has a new CV and she helped her navigate the different Job Vacancy websites too. Keen to enhance her core skill set even further Suzanne completed an online COSHH course and an ICT course.
Her hard work is paying off! Everyone at Moving On Tyne & Wear is extremely proud and delighted at how far Suzanne has come and we know it’ll only be a matter of time before she finds her perfect job 😊
