When Andrew joined Moving On Tyne & Wear he was struggling with anxiety and depression following his exit from University.
He’d left after his first year, as the remote learning and affects of lockdown had severely impacted his mental health. He was unable to think clearly or make decisions about what he was going to do next.
His mother recommended Moving On Tyne & Wear, as a past participant of ours she knew the value we could bring, and that we could help her son to move forward. So, he got in touch to see what we could do to help. He was assigned to our South Tyneside team, and started working with one of our Navigators, James.
James helped Andrew recognise his self-worth and believe in himself again. He helped him realise that just because he had left University, he wasn’t a failure! In fact, it was incredibly brave to put himself and his mental health first. James signed Andrew up to get a Level 1 Award in Employability Skills and at the end of the course he was offered a job by the training provider. He is now happily teaching maths as a teaching assistant.
Moving On Tyne & Wear have helped me to find training and to find employment. They’ve given me a use for my passion to help and meet liked minded people and I now have a job that lets me enjoy my life more!
Andrew left the Moving On Tyne & Wear programme a more confident and happier version of himself, with a clear vision of his future. When asked whether he would recommend us to others, he simply said ‘of course I would!’
