This was one of the original Innovation Projects offered by Moving On Tyne & Wear. Since publishing the report, it has come to a natural end, although the findings will be shared and utilised by local support services.
Throughout 2017 we sought six Moving On Tyne & Wear participants to train as peer researchers to find out the impact that historical substance misuse and addiction has on people who are looking for work. Each of the participants took part in a series of half-day accredited Level 2 training sessions in Peer Research and Research Skills, covering the following skills:
Different research methods
Understanding peer research
Thinking about bias
Developing research questions
Research methods in focus: Interviews
Putting it all together: plan a research project
The participants completed the training and planned how to carry out the research in both one-to-one and group sessions.
We offered three part-time jobs to our peer researchers to evaluate the research, draft a report and share the findings across the Moving On Tyne & Wear partnership.
