A Look Back At Employability Day

Friday 26th June 2020 is Employability Day! This is a day for organisations and employers to celebrate all things employability.

Moving On Tyne & Wear is a programme that supports people with health barriers, disabilities or additional learning needs get closer to employment.

In the last year, we have played our part in 2 Employability Days, holding events in Newcastle with other very valuable organisations. Over 300 people have attended the free events and workshops that we held, and hopefully had some fun along the way!

This year, with Covid19, it’s a very different situation. With businesses and services in lock down since March, some of which are beginning to slowly reopen, we’ve sadly been unable to hold one of these events this year.

We want to take this opportunity to look back at the events we have held for Employability Day so far.

Employability Day June 2019

Newcastle Employability Day 28th June 2019On Employability Day in June 2019, we were excited to showcase a range of employability-related events across Newcastle, which we co-hosted with Skillshub Newcastle. For people out of work and living in Tyne and Wear, this day was not to be missed!

The sessions across Newcastle helped people develop their personal and professional skills, in a variety of ways. Reviving the Heart of the West End taught tricks of the trade from the world of TV & Film to help with interviews, and Ouseburn Farm Charity taught participants how to make their own bread and butter using veg and herbs from the garden.

The day was full of workshops and sessions taking place all across Newcastle, take a look at the packed timetable below:

Employability Day November 2019

Newcastle Employability Day 19th November 2019

In November 2019, Newcastle Employability Day was back! Again, in collaboration with Skillshub Newcastle, we brought a day of free workshops & sessions to people who were out of work. From interview skills, to CV support, to insights into specific careers, there was something for everyone.

From mock interviews to a taster session with Smart Works Newcastle, to the ‘let your hair down’ session from Making Music Together. Take a look at the range of workshops we were able to offer this day:

We want to say a big thanks to everyone who has been involved in our Employability Day workshops so far! We’re super proud of these events, and can’t wait to get back to planning some more.

This year, we’re focussing on our participants as our works continues at pace in a virtual format. Our local teams have kept in contact with our participants throughout the lockdown, and continue to offer various forms of support. Our Employer Engagement team have continued to keep our employers in the loop and are here to help them through these unpresented times.

As the lockdown eases, we are all starting to discover what our way of working will be. If you’re a participant or business please remember that, even though you cannot see us face to face, we are still here for you.
