Moving On Tyne & Wear is proud to play an active part in the Business in the Community’s (BITC) Ready for Work programme alongside other BBO’s and charity partners from across the North East. BITC is led by Changing Lives, and together the partners involved in the programme have secured work placements in many areas of employment including administration, construction, retail, warehousing, facilities management and support work from companies such as Marks & Spencer, Greggs, Virgin Money and the Tyne & Wear Museum Service. To date BITC has helped over 600 people from across the region find sustainable employment as a result of their participation in the programme.
The initiative is a fantastic opportunity for our MOTW participants, giving them a flavour of what it’s like to work in a particular industry by offering a safe introduction to the working environment via a two-week work placement. Due to current COVID restrictions all work placements are currently on hold, however the MOTW Employer Engagement Team are still involved in BITC and are helping to deliver some ‘Ready for Work’ training to help people prepare for when placements are available again.
WHAT DOES ‘READY FOR WORK’ MEAN?
Ready for Work is a tried and tested national model providing opportunities for personal and professional development. The course is run over two days and covers topics such as first impressions, timekeeping, appropriate behaviours, and communication techniques. Local businesses are invited to attend and will use the opportunity to speak about their industry and offer expert guidance and advice.
The MOTW Employer Engagement Team encourage MOTW participants to take part in the BITC programme. Based on their own goals and aspirations, participants are matched to an upcoming course that has an industry of interest speaking, and are awarded a certificate upon completion of the course. Once restrictions are lifted, and work placements can start again, these participants will be ready to start on a work placement relevant to them
