FreeWe invite you to join us for the launch of a new Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) report:
“Health for Wealth: Building a Healthier North for UK Productivity”
Supported by the Northern Powerhouse Partnership
WHAT: Join Northern leaders for the launch of a ground-breaking new report looking at the relationship between health and wealth in the region.
WHO: Leader of Newcastle City Council Nick Forbes, Newcastle University Professor of Public Health Clare Bambra, CEO of the Northern Health Science Alliance Dr Hakim Yadi OBE. More TBC
WHERE:The Boilershop, Newcastle upon Tyne, 10am, November 20, 2018
WHY: UK productivity is lagging behind, the North has a productivity gap of over £4 per person per hour compared to the South.
Yet there has been limited research into what impact the North’s poor health, where people die a fifth earlier than southerners, has on the region’s wealth.
The Northern Health Science Alliance commissioned public health experts from six of the North’s top universities: Newcastle, York, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Lancaster to look at the issue.
This major new report will be of interest to: local and national government, third sector, academic, health service and business leaders interested in economic productivity and health inequalities across the North of England and wider UK.
The importance of the initial findings should not be underestimated, not only do these findings demonstrate the scale of the health and economic challenges facing the North, they also provide a blueprint to overcome the problem: in order to improve productivity in the North, we need to improve health in the North.
